My brother spent 5 days in one of South Africa's most dangerous prisons over a broken window.
My brother walked into church on a Sunday morning (31 May) and saw his ex-wife with her new boyfriend and his own child. He followed them home and put a rock through their window. Charge laid. Police called.
They took him to St Albans Prison, Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). If you don't know St Albans look it up. It's not somewhere you want to spend a night, let alone five days, especially not as a white boy. He couldn't make a single phone call the entire time. As a family we had no idea if he was okay, or what was happening inside. That silence was brutal.
We finally got word, found out the bail amount, and I went straight to the magistrate's office and paid it in cash. R500 which is only $30 to walk him out of that place.
Receipt is stamped and official. I've blurred personal details but happy to share the full doc in DMs - I'm @homyholmes on X.
I shilled him Bountywork in the car after his bail, he sounded interested but wasn't himself, ill onboard him in the week once he's slept this off and back to normal.
This is what a completed bounty looks like. 🫡
